The video and audio above are from my partner, Jason. He sent to me this voice note this morning in disbelief fronm his work site! Wha! dem guana ya eat anything whey deh boy, dem no easy. Jason makes me laugh so much :D What better way to distract myself from the logistics of getting from my little remote island to NYC tomorrow for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Civil Society Engagement Forum, at the United Nations Headquarters.

It is way more calming to write about the iguanas today - because they are a big deal! We have our own little dinosaurs here on Montserrat and they are just as Montserratian as I am. I’m no expert but ~2019/2020 a new endemic species of melanistic black iguana (Iguana melanoderma) was discovered in Saba and Montserrat. The species were previously considered to be the typical green iguana that we see here but it get’s complicated. I’m told the more you look at them the more you see the difference.

So I was working from The Clubhouse this week, and I felt the most supported I’ve probably ever felt in my remoting working life, thanks to the community ‘co-working,’ sessions with the cool folks at Focused Space. While researching for a project during my focused power-hour who do I see walking across the beach ? Look carefully!

Yep, you guessed it, another iguana! This time of year the female iguanas are walking about looking for warm surfaces to bask in the sun and comfort themselves during their gestation period. This particular iguana, likes being at the seaside, and judging from the big spikes, this one looks like a young male.

While I went off on my own tangent, photographing iguanas, my friend and carpenter, Zimbabwe, was installing two new aluminium ( hurricane-proof ) windows at The Clubhouse.

More later, and wish me luck for my travels ( I’m going to need it ! )
