Offline is healing
Put your projects aside and do what you truly love
One of the most beautiful, lighthearted, joyous, easy to read newsletters I came across this week was from Jenna O'Brien of Feeling! Magazine . Highly recommend!
Jenna’s work is arty, joyful, and whimsy. Today was the first I learned of this word “whimsy” from Bob Goff in his book Love Does.
True whimsy cannot be purchased or curated. It is free! It cannot come from someone else or be manufactured. Real, true, pure whimsy comes from your heart and bubbles out! - Jenna O'Brien
Something clicked for me this week, it was when I came across Marie-Christine Oliverand her newsletter The Reframe Diaries. She spoke of her personal and very real experience with burnout , which spoke to me deeply. I too have been going through repeated burnouts, and it was just this week that I accepted my responsibility in this. Bare with me, and hold space as I go through my healing out loud, with gratitude because I have so much to be happy for. I have the freedom to curate my life each day in a very organic ways, that don’t need to cost a lot of money. I’m not sure what comes next for me but more and more I’m just enjoying each day.
Now, let’s get to how I’ve been prioritizing my wellbeing, reconnecting to joy and whimsy.
Identifying as an artist that does environmental work, and that alone feels liberating
Enjoying different conversations with new people on substack and on island - it feels refreshing.
My new signature scent is Sweetgrass.
Reminded how much I love crafting. I want to learn the cultural stuff like plaiting sweetgrass and coconut palms, weaving baskets and beading.
Curating The Clubhouse
Experimenting with a little art gallery in a tiny corner of the clubhouse.
My partner handpicked hibiscus flowers one morning and handed them over with an I love you, Veta.
Logged in to Beth Spencer’s Introvert Drawing Club to practice my drawing.
While being a guest on the local radio “Culture Show,” I journalled reflections of the past - The seaside village of Sugarbay, Montserrat c.1940s -1995.
I’ve been taking time to be still in nature. To just look and listen.
Until next time,
Veta <3
